Singing in the Pain ©2015
A friend asked me to paint a jazz funeral. There's a profound juxtaposition of joy and sadness during a jazz funeral that I think perfectly images the depth of the experience of life. It's not an entirely somber event; It's the celebration of a life. People dance through the streets and musicians play to the capacity of their lungs as people of the community join in the parade. I chose a cool palette to capture the sting of sadness, but I wanted to also capture the joy of life in some of the faces.
